17th December 2022

God forbids, but if you experience the state of infertility, the stress, anxiety and loneliness can become difficult to manage. And these unwanted things magnify as each day passes. Hence, it’s very important to take care not only your physical health but also your emotional health when your fertility treatments begin.

However, there are certain self-care that would boost your physical and emotional well- being during your fertility treatment process. These steps would help keep you in the positive mind set as much as possible when you think of conceiving.

Seek support for betterment:

Always think that you are not alone in the experience with infertility. Seek support from people who have been in your position or had overcome this situation. Try to overcome this situation mentally.

Exercise kindness:

Always be kind to yourself. It is seen that a lot of times people feel isolated and put up a lot of mental pressure on themselves. Try to think that whatever you are doing is right and good. Have confidence on yourself. Practicing self-kindness is imperative. According to medical experts and doctors, it is always important to be compassionate and gentle with one self, and by this what they mean is it is not right to compare with others.

Sometimes, it is seen that a family member or a close friend or a colleague of yours celebrate the pregnancy, but don’t get upset. Infertility is not permanent, proper treatment and medication can overcome the problem and bring you happiness.

Find happiness in small things:

It’s important to find small things that make you happy. Doctors suggest that overcoming stress and anxiety is not easy, however, try to practice one small thing each day that would bring pleasure to you. Choose a hobby you like most. Singing, gardening, cooking, painting, reading story books or magazines, listening to music can be very good therapy to beat stress and loneliness. Even a long walk with your partner or just sharing good moments with your close ones can bring a lot of joy and this would result in bettering your emotional health.

Take a break:

Don’t overwork. It’s better just to lie and meditate or listen to youtr favourite music. Don’t over stress, because it’s going to cause more emotional health problems. Doctors often recommend to take break form your daily routine; this would make you feel better.

Taking emotional break from talking about fertility. Couples should sit back and relax, share good thought, happy incidents with one another. This would help one of the partners to rely upon his/her partner. Just relax and sit back and take time from all sorts of work.

Be honest to your partner:

It’s quite normal to be emotional to experience about infertility; but, dealing with them in a healthy way can make all the differences. Acknowledge your partner’s feeling. Be honest with yourself and to your partner, too. Do share your emotions – whether you are feeling jealous, happy, sad, angry, depressed... speak to your partner, discuss with him. Having open discussions and honest conversations actually strengthen your bonding during this difficult time. If you cannot, don’t hesitate to visit a counsellor or speaking to your doctor.

Be close to your partner:

It’s often seen that whenever you try to conceive, intimacy may be seen as forced. Don’t make intimacy forced. Connect to your partner, let the relationship bloom because this is the time when you need your partner the most. Intimacy does not mean sexual relationship, rather an emotional one. Holding hand, giving hugs for little joyous moment, going for a walk, cooking and eating together, appreciating each other for little things, enjoying a movie, TV or radio programme together. These all would strengthen the relationship.

Always ask for help:

It’s recommended to talk to your partner. To talk means what you feel like, what you are going through, what is your feeling, what you worry about etc... And as we all know that frustration, anxiety, stress and sadness are quite normal during fertility treatments, it is advisable that you seek help if at any time those feelings become enormous.

But whatever it be, it is always advisable to discuss your anxiety, sadness, stress with your doctor; because a doctor is the best person to take care of all these problems.

If you’re experiencing any of the following listed below, it’s recommended seeking the help of a fertility counsellor/doctor at your earliest:
